しゃがみ込む意味の『つくばう』に由来する手水鉢。
本来、茶の湯の会で手や口を清めるのに使われています。
のちに、庭園の中の雰囲気作りの要素のひとつとしても使われるようになりました。
寺などの日本庭園によく使われます。
Washbowl to come from "Tsukubau" of meaning to crouch down.
It is originally employed to cleanse a hand and a mouth in a meeting of tea ceremony.
It became employ as one of an element of atmosphere structure in a garden afterwards.
It is used for Japanese garden of temples well.

上の写真は石庭でも世界的に有名な竜安寺のつくばいです。
吾唯足知(われ、ただ、たるを、しる)と書かれていることは、あまりにも有名です。
なかなか洒落っ気が有りますね。 それぞれに形や景色が異なり興味深い物です。

Four kanjis is designed mainly on a central square, and a heart of Zen represent.
There is very dandyism.
It is the thing which form and scenery varies in each, and is interesting.
